Alessandra Araújo
Born in 1981 in Brasília-DF, Brazil
Resides and works in Brasília - DF, Brazil
Alessandra Araújo develops her work exploring the language of photography, both film and digital. The analog processes are an essential part of her artistic practice. Through wanderings and nature contemplation, she investigates the many ways of documenting the passing of time. She makes use of a virtual diary (blog) as a way of organizing her work and connecting with Portuguese speakers worldwide. In her photography, she explores concepts such as chance, ephemerality, existentialism, and the beauty of everyday life.
She graduated in Pedagogy with a dual degree: Educational Guidance and Elementary School Teaching at University of Brasília - UnB (2004). She studied photography at Espaço f/508 de Fotografia (2007-2008) in Brasília-DF, Brazil. From 2014 to 2024, she lived and worked in Kyiv (UA) and Amsterdam (NL) where she studied Film Developing and Darkroom Printing at Stichting MK24 (2023).
She was a member of Fotoclube f/508 in Brasília-DF (BR) and Analog Club Amsterdam (NL). She participated in group exhibitions such as "Show Yourself" (2023), "Histórias, Memórias e Outros Resgates Fotográficos'' (2011), "Estética do Acaso'' (2010). She has collaborated with independent musicians from Brazil such as the band Club Silêncio (2011), the solo artist ˆL_ (2014) and the duo That Gum U Like (2018 and 2019). Currently, she is a collaborator at LAFA-UnB, an Alternative Photography Laboratory linked to the University of Brasília - UnB.
